Arcen is a touristic pearl in the municipality of Venlo. The picturesque village is part of Nationaal Park de Maasduinen and was originally a fortified town. The remnants of that history are still present in several places.
Arcen is located at the river de Maas and is a well-known junction for hikers and cyclists who enjoy the beautiful green Maas area and the underlying nature of the Maasduinen. Arcen is full of terraces and good food and drink is a way of life here. The village is very cosy. A multitude of events, such as the asparagus market in spring and various atmospheric markets, make sure visitors return often. The Scrooge Festival, which is organised once every two years, has quickly become a must-see for visitors from the wider region and Germany.
